Itinerary

We will travel to the Metzabok Lagoon taking highway 199 that leads to Ocosingo, Chiapas, for approximately 20 minutes. Then, we will take highway 307 heading toward Frontera Corozal for 30 minutes until reaching the Chancala crossroads. From there, we will take a left and continue for about 1 hour until we arrive at the destination.

Before starting the tour, we will enjoy a delicious breakfast (not included) at the house of Don Enrique Valenzuela, where you can taste typical regional dishes and learn more about the Lacandon culture, with an approximate duration of 1 hour.

After breakfast, the tour will begin. Metzabok is a destination located among the mountains in the eastern part of the state of Chiapas, in the Lacandon Jungle. Its name, which in the Mayan language means “God maker of thunders,” evokes the historical and natural richness of the area. During the tour, we will be accompanied by a Lacandon guide, who will share his knowledge about the culture and surroundings.

We will start with a canoe tour on the lagoon, which will last approximately 2 hours. During this experience, we will enjoy the tranquility of the place and the rich biodiversity that surrounds it, including exotic birds and lush vegetation.

Next, we will visit Tzibanah, a cave where we can observe rock paintings that have endured over time, depicted on a stone at the edge of the lagoon. This site reflects the art and spirituality of the ancient civilizations that inhabited the region, offering a deep connection with the history of the Maya peoples.

Subsequently, we will head to a sacred place, where we will learn about its meaning and cultural relevance. To conclude the tour, we will visit the Viewpoint, from where you can appreciate an impressive panorama of the Metzabok lagoons. This is an ideal moment to take photographs and enjoy the spectacular surrounding landscape.

Finally, we will travel back to the city of Palenque, Chiapas, with an approximate return by 6:00 p.m.
